Justin Bieber accused his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez of using him for fame over the weekend, causing a stir with fans. But according to one of her friends, that's definitely not the case. "They're both young and have made mistakes, but she has never used him," the source told People. "He put their relationship out there way more than she ever did, and he's been very strategic about it."
Indeed, ever since the former couple first split in late 2012, Justin has continuously posted throwback photos taken during their romance on Instagram. "Whenever something good is happening in her life, he'll post something to get at her," the insider added.
The fall-out began when Justin posted a series of photos of himself with new girlfriend Sofia Richie, and after getting some abuse from his fans, threatened to make his Instagram account private.
Selena, 24, commented on his post, writing: "If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you and supported you before anyone ever did."
Justin, 22, responded, saying: "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love." He then added a second comment that read: "I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes I love my Beliebers."
But Selena wasn't ready to let Justin have the last word. "Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love," she wrote – to which Justin replied: "I cheated… Oh and I forgot about you and Zayn."
Justin was in Japan over the weekend with 17-year-old Sofia – the daughter of Lionel Richie and the half-sister of Nicole Richie - on his Purpose World Tour. Justin and Selena had an on-off relationship from 2011 until they finally split for good in 2014.
