Sophie Grégoire Trudeau received a warm welcome on social media on Tuesday (Oct. 11) after the mother of three made her debut on Facebook and Instagram. Her husband Justin Trudeau was quick to follow her, as was actress Emma Watson, who celebrated Sophie by posting a photo and anecdote from their time together in Ottawa earlier this month.
"Definitely a highlight of my year was meeting this person," wrote the 26-year-old on Instagram, alongside a picture of herself and Sophie riding a scooter. Emma goes on to explain that the former TV personality picked her up from her hotel and took her on a ride through the streets of Ottawa.
Definitely a highlight of my year was meeting this person. Who picks you up on a Vespa before your meetings to personally show you why she loves her city and her country? It was one of the most free and inspiring mornings I have had all year- not what I expected from someone who is as busy as she must be. She's a yogi, feminist, artist, advocate, mother, warrior and all round gold hearted person. What a privilege it is to have met her. Welcome to Instagram Sophie! ❤ Bonjour! I'm looking forward to being able to see your adventures and especially witness the work you do on behalf of women and girls. P.s she did the driving and we both wore helmets! @sophiegregoiretrudeau #internationaldayofthegirl #ottawa #canada
The Harry Potter actress was in Canada's capital to represent her HeForShe campaign at the One Young World Summit on Sept. 28. Sophie and Emma are both passionate advocates for women's rights and appear to have bonded over their determination to make positive changes in the world.
Emma also had some kind words for Sophie, writing, "She's a yogi, feminist, artist, advocate, mother, warrior and all round gold hearted person," adding that it was a "privilege" to have met her.
Prior to her appearance at the summit, Emma dropped by Parliament Hill to meet with the prime minister to talk about gender equality. "It's so exciting for me to come and visit your parliament," the actress told Justin, before applauding his decision to enforce a gender-equal cabinet.
