Sean and Catherine Giudici-Lowe reveal why their marriage works

The Bachelor has seen its fair share of loved-up couples, but Sean and Catherine Giudici-Lowe are one of two couples who have made it to the altar! The former reality show stars revealed in a recent interview why they have had such a successful and long-lasting marriage since tying the knot in 2014.

“Part of our success comes from the fact that we're not the typical Bachelor couple,” Sean said in an interview with ET, adding that they don’t have “Bachelor reunions” with other couples and try to stay away from the limelight as much as possible. “We live our own life and do our own thing, so we don’t really feel that pressure and that’s the way we like it… we just want to be normal [and] make our relationship work.”

While the lovebirds are trying to live an ordinary life, the couple noted that they still find it “bizarre” that they met on a reality TV show. Catherine even confessed she didn’t believe that she was even Sean’s type. “I didn’t think he would choose me in a million years,” said the mother of one.

Despite her doubts, the duo made a strong connection over the course of the show and fell in love. Catherine explained that the fast-paced series allowed the pair to address issues that were “non-negotiable,” and essentially their answers proved to them that their love would last.

“Hard conversations that you would have with a significant other after six or nine months, you have on your first date,” she said. “’Do you want kids? Where do you want to live? Do you want to work after this?’ Whatever things don’t match, you can be like, ‘OK, I’m going to send her home this week because it doesn’t make sense,’” said Catherine.

It’s been four magical years since they first laid eyes on each other, and while their romance has only continued to blossom, they are quick to admit that their relationship wasn’t always sunshine and roses. Sean recognizes that Catherine “made [a] tremendous sacrifice” leaving her family, friends and career behind to move to Seattle from Los Angeles after they got engaged.

During that period, Catherine spent much of her time alone as Sean was busy training for Dancing With the Stars. The honeymoon period also saw its fair share of arguments, especially since the couple had different ways of living (Sean was “very neat” while Catherine was “super messy”). They quickly learned that “understanding [each other’s] boundaries” was a part of married life!

The lovebirds are now parents to nine-month-old Samuel Thomas

Even though Catherine and Sean have faced some challenges along the way, their love has endured and are now parents to nine-month old Samuel Thomas. The couple even shared some tips for future Bachelor/Bachelorette contestants hoping to find their own happily ever after.

“You have to have a solid foundation when you go on and I think that was something that I am blessed to have had,” Catherine said, with Sean adding that each person in the relationship needs to relax and remain calm. “Don’t act like a crazy monster because it’s going to be really difficult once those episodes start to air. Just tame it,” he exclaimed.
