Well-known Canadian stars including A-list actor Ryan Reynolds and comedian Samantha Bee are just a few of the famous faces named to Time’s coveted list the 100 most influential people. In addition to being called out by the publication for their talent, both stars received heartwarming tributes from some of their Hollywood friends.
Ryan’s friend and former Woman in Gold co-star Helen Mirren, penned a touching note about the father of two, in which she complimented his sweet personality. “[He] is kind, committed and generous, especially to women,” gushedthe 71-year-old actress, adding that the Vancouver native has an amazing sense of humour and carries himself with grace both in and out of the public eye.
“[He] has a natural wit, which he often turns on himself, and he can balance his private and public life with great dexterity,” Helen exclaimed. The British actress also praised Ryan’s acting ability and congratulated him on the “well-deserved” success of his breakaway hit action flick Deadpool.
Samantha Bee received equally complimentary praise from legendary actress and comedian Jane Curtin.
In a sweet write-up, The Librarian star lauded the late-night hoston her incredible wit and quick sense of humour. “She is as smart as a whip,” Jane stated. She also saluted Samantha for using her celebrity status to raise awareness for women’s issues. “She has given voice to all the women who have wanted to take on the political establishment—women like me,” explained the star.
Joining Ryan and Samantha on the list is esteemed Canadian author Margaret Atwood, whose iconic novel A Handmaid’s Tale has been adapted for the small screen in the upcoming miniseries starring Elisabeth Moss. Other celebrities featured on the list include Viola Davis, John Legend, James Corden, Sarah Paulson, Demi Lovato, Leslie Jones, Margot Robbie, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys and more.
