Liam Neeson was so taken by a New Westminster sandwich shop’s offer of free food he couldn’t help but cash in on the generous gesture. The actor surprised employees at the Big Star Sandwich restaurant after catching wind of their social media campaign.
When staff members heard that the Taken star was in town shooting the action-packed drama Hard Powder they put a hilarious plan in motion to grab his attention. Alex Johrden, a spokesperson for the establishment, explained to theCBC that they replaced the wording on their sidewalk signs with humorous and creative puns and sayings before blasting pictures of the edited signs all over social media. “Liam Neeson eats here for free” read one sign, while another said, “Come in and get Taken away by our sandwiches.”
Much to the shock of store employees, the plan worked!
Speaking to Buzzfeed Canada, Alex revealed that everyone in Big Star couldn’t believe their eyes when the Love Actually star dropped in and asked, “Where’s my sandwich?” “We had no idea he would be in our vicinity. I assume someone on the film crew saw the sign and got it back to him,” he told the news outlet
In the end, the Northern Irish actor didn’t actually eat the sandwich, but he did pose for a photo with employees Kyle Gus and Serge Patoka, who showed off their best action hero stares alongside the Hollywood legend. "As you can see in the photo, they're about as stoked as they've ever been in their lives,” Alex explained.
