Keith Urban had a very special fan in the stands watching him perform the national anthem ahead of Tuesday’s playoff game between the Nashville Predators and Anaheim Ducks.Nicole Kidman has seen her husband perform on stages all around the world, and was delighted to cheer him on as he took to the ice prior to the Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final showdown.
The GRAMMY award-winning artist performed a beautiful a capella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as he proudly wore a bright yellow No.17 Predators jersey with his famous last name emblazoned on the back.
The Big Little Lies star wasn’t the only famous face in the crowd. Keith’s friend and former tour mate Carrie Underwood (whose husband Mike Fisher is the caption of the Predators) was also on hand to show support for the country superstar. Both ladies took to social media to celebrate Keith’s performance, with Carrie tweeting ““Aaaaaaand... @KeithUrban just kicked it all off!!!” while Nicole posted a picture of her husband in his hockey jersey before he stepped on the ice.
Performing the national anthem was a career milestone for the father of two. Prior to stepping up to the microphone, Keith shared a short video on Twitter, in which he expressed his excitement over being at the game and explained how he’s never sang at a sporting event before. “I’ve lived in America for almost 25 years, and I’ve never been asked to sing the National Anthem, until tonight. So, it’s a huge honour. Thank you, Preds. God Bless,” said the star. He later told the NHL Network that Tuesday’s performance was “one of the proudest moments” of his life.
