It looks as if Chris Pine is still stuck in the ’90s. During an appearance on Good Morning America alongside his Wonder Woman co-stars on Tuesday (May 23), the actor, 36, admitted he still uses a flip phone!
“I have a flip phone,” Chris told co-host Michael Strahan, when asked about his biggest quirk. “The flip world is a whole world you gotta get into!”
He may know his way around futuristic gadgets when he’s playing Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek films, but off-camera Chris prefers simple forms of technology. “I’ll tell you what, here we go: I recently got a record player and a flip phone. I kind of like simplifying down. I just like the simple, I just like the non-complicated,” he said, adding that a flip phone helps him unplug. “I don’t want to be connected so much… [technology] creates an anxiety.”
The American heartthrob’s passion for old-school technology took Michael by surprise – just like it did Chris’s leading lady Gal Gadot, who said she teased him about his phone. “I was literally asking him a few days ago, ‘What is this?’” said Gal, who plays Wonder Woman herself.
Chris said his old-fashioned phone makes his life much easier, except when it comes to text messaging. "I don’t know if you remember, like, T9 [predictive texting]?” All those key strokes are anything but simple, he admitted. “Wow!”
Wonder Woman hits theatres May 26. Then the in-demand actor will film the drama Outlaw King – and make his way back to the high-tech surroundings of Star Trek. The sci-fi film franchise is set to return with (a still untitled) sequel.
