Sixteen year after her life story was loosely documented in the film Glitter, Mariah Carey’s rise to fame is set to be re-told in a new drama series. The US network Starz has reportedly commissioned the show, with Mariah Carey and Hollywood heavyweight Brett Ratner on board as executive producers.
According to Deadline, the program will be set in 1986 and will follow the “chronicles the rise of an ambitious bi-racial 16-year-old girl, an aspiring singer-songwriter who survived a difficult childhood to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time.”
Mariah has never shied away from sharing her experiences with her fans, most recently documenting her life and career in the docu-series Mariah’s World . Unlike Glitter, the mother of two is stepping back from the spotlight to let another actress tell her story. Casting news is still to be announced.
In addition to her new television project, Mariah is keeping busy with touring and making new music. She is currently finishing her 13 th studio album, which is set for release later this year, and later this month she will hit the road with Lionel Richie for a series of shows in the US and Canada. Fans can also catch her from time to time when she takes the stage in Las Vegas.
