Liev Schreiber adopts puppies displaced by Hurricane Harvey

Liev Schreiber walked on to the Live with Kelly and Ryan stage empty handed, and left with not one, but two puppies! The dogs were on-set with Home for Good Dog Rescue to raise awareness for the animals left homeless by Hurricane Harvey’s devastation.

To keep the mood light, the 49-year-old actor joked with the talk show hosts, “I just had a dust up with one of your producers. I don’t think it’s fair or appropriate that your producers get to take all of the dogs that came from Houston.”

The Ray Donovan star shared that his sons with former love Naomi Watts, Samuel and Alexander, have been wanting a dog for a long time, but they hadn’t found the perfect ones until now. While backstage, Liev had a video-chat with his family to get their seal of approval, and went home with Woody and his soon-to-be-named sister.

Though the former Hollywood couple split late last year, the two remain very close for the sake of their children. Liev first addressed the breakup on Dec. 1 during an appearance on CBS This Morning. When asked whether the change in his relationship status is scary, the actor replied, “Yeah. Of course it is."

He added, "But, you know, we're parents together so we'll be together for the rest of our lives no matter what and, um, we're very close. Hopefully, that never changes and I don't think it will."

Liev takes his role as a dad very seriously. His recent stint on Broadway was fuelled by his desire to be close to his family. “I wanted to be close to the kids. I wanted to pick a job that would put me in New York and keep me in New York, and this was a job that was in the city, and it kept me around the kids. The problem is you have no time to be with them on a theatre schedule,” revealed the actor.
