Shania Twain joins ‘The Launch’ as mentor

By Meaghan Wray

Shania Twain is about the become the ultimate mentor to aspiring singers. The Canadian icon has signed on to star in CTV’s new singing competition series The Launch.

Unlike other singing competition series like American Idol, contestants on The Launch will be required to create new original songs every episode. Joining Shania on the mentor panel are Fergie, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and record executive Scott Borchetta. The announcement comes five months after Shania appeared on NBC's The Voice, where she helped the final 12 contestants perfect their performances.

Man, Shania’s definitely been feeling like a busy woman since she jumped back into the music scene after a 15-year hiatus! She celebrated her 52nd birthday on Aug 28 with a dazzling performance at the US Open and will headline the Grey Cup halftime show in November. But before she delights football fans, the mother of one will celebrate the release of her hotly-anticipated album NOW on Sept. 28.

But the most exciting part of all? Our favourite leopard print-clad superstar is hitting the road again for a huge North American tour, SHANIA NOW. The tour kicks off on May 3 in Tacoma, Washington, and will see the singer make stops in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Hamilton, Ottawa, London and Quebec City. Tickets to see the Canadian country queen are on sale now.

Shania spoke recently about collaborating with fellow Canadian superstar Celine Dion. “Hell yes!” she exclaimed to The Cut when asked if she’d like to sing with the Montréal native. She added: “I’d love to do that. I actually use her [Celine] as my warm-up music a lot of the time. She’s got such a high range. ‘Drove All Night’ is my favourite one to do my vocal warm-ups to, because it has the higher harmony, which is really hard.”
