Oprah opens up about potential bid for presidency

Unfortunately for fans of the beloved talk show host, #Oprah2020 is just not in the cards! While Oprah Winfrey’s moving Golden Globes speech inspired supporters to nominate her for America’s next Democratic presidential candidate, the 63-year-old has politely declined the invitation.

While speaking to InStyle, the Oprah shared the thought process behind her decision, saying “I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so, it’s not something that interests me.”

Oprah made an impassioned speech at the 2018 Golden Globes

The statement came just weeks before the TV icon delivered a moving and heartfelt speech while accepting the Cecil B DeMille award. Her words rocked the Golden Globes audience and the rest of the world, prompting speculation that she may very well run against Donald Trump in 2020. While the star has no interest in running, it certainly doesn’t stop her from speaking out on political issues.

Her timely speech came as steam was picking up on the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements – solidarity campaigns aimed at calling attention to workplace harassment and sexual violence in Hollywood. Speaking to themes of gender, power and racism, Oprah said to the crowd: “To all the girls watching here… know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because for a lot of magnificent women… and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again.”

Though the dream of Oprah as president has come to a swift end, her legacy and her voice aren’t going anywhere!
