Jim Carrey has been cleared of wrongful death charges stemming to his former girlfriend Cathriona White's suicide, it has been confirmed. The 55-year-old actor was due to go to court in April for the wrongful death case after Cathriona's mother Brigid Sweetman and estranged husband Mark Burton accused the Canadian star of giving her drugs. But it has been confirmed that the actor will no longer be tried for the tragic overdose of 30-year-old Cathriona in September 2015.

A spokesperson for the American actor told The Hollywood Reporter that the matters have been dismissed. Michael Avenatti, an attorney for Sweetman and Burton, said: "We have no further comment at this time." Jim's lawyer had previously asked the judge to throw the case out of court, with the Mask star Carrey denying the "malicious" and "predatory" allegations. In her lawsuit, Cathriona's mother stated that Jim had provided her daughter with "prescription drugs… despite the fact that he knew full well that Ms. White (a) was ill equipped to ingest and manage highly additive prescription drugs outside the care of a licensed physician; (b) was prone to depression; and (c) had previously attempted to take her own life".

The couple dated on-and-off for three years between 2012 and 2015, and the actor was completely devastated by her death. In a statement released shortly after the news broke, he said: "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and everyone that loved and cared for her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
