Step inside Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild’s kid-friendly NYC home

As a world-renowned fashion designer and heir to the Hilton chain of hotels, Nicky Hilton has all the talent in the world to outfit her own home. But for the design of their New York City penthouse, she gave the reigns to husband James Rothschild.

“James did the vast majority,” the 34-year-old mother of two shared with Architectural Digest. “I added my little feminine touches, my little accessories.”

Their stunning penthouse is nestled in Manhattan’s NoHo neighbourhood, where the darling couple is raising their eight-week-old Teddy Marilyn, 19-month-old Lily-Grace and, of course, their two adorable furry friends, Mac and Cheese.

A talent normally attributed to the matriarch of the family, James refreshingly stepped into designer shoes quite naturally. “I don’t know where I got it from, I just quite enjoy doing it. I mean, look, I’m not that into decorating,” he explained. “I do enjoy it, but I would never do it as a job.”

Nicky took charge of decorating Lily-Grace’s adorable nursery; a charming mix of colours, stuffed animals and heart-adorned bedding perfect for a little girl. “I had so much fun doing this room. You just get to relive your childhood again with all the things you loved: kitties and bunnies and princesses,” she gushed.

Their comfortable home, with a stunning colour scheme of rich blues and pops of bright red, is filled to the brim with heirlooms and antiques, giving their space a classic feel. But there’s one thing Nicky was always sure of – nothing would be out-of-bounds for her children. “I grew up in a house full of antiques and fancy fabrics and certain rooms you weren’t allowed to go in,” she shared of her family home. “And as a child, I always told myself that I will never have that when I’m grown up; I would have a house where no room is off-limits.”
