The Raptors star in the opening credits of ‘The Office’ thanks to a Reddit user

By Meaghan Wray

The Raptors hold a nostalgic and endearing place in many Canadians’ hearts, much like the former TV show The Office. So, when Reddit user 905UserNotFound released a mashup of both the famous basketball team and the comedy’s intro credits, fans went ballistic.

As the critically acclaimed show’s opening sequence goes, the viewer is taken on a quick tour of the fictitious city of Scranton, Pennsylvanian. “The Office Theme Song,” recognizable even by those who don’t watch the show, is simple and cheerful, helping to introduce each member of the show. All sporting distinct personalities, the mashup shows off each Raptors player, from Demar Derozan to Kyle Lowry, after taking us to some of Toronto’s most famous sights, from the city’s skyline to courtside seats at the Air Canada Centre.

SportsNet anchor Faizal Khamisa, who first shared the video on Twitter, even went as far to give the Raptors – and the famous team’s affiliates like Drake – their ultimate Office pairing. But the homegrown singer had nothing to do with the video, despite being the most easily recognized fan of Canada’s basketball team.

Much to the delight of Torontoians, the Raptors have been playing well compared to past years. But the players have a reputation off the court, too, and even those who aren’t fans of basketball love their personalities. The national team has their own show called Open Gym, which gives the various Raptors an opportunity to show off their off-court selves – and they don’t take themselves too seriously. Here’s hoping this viral video will win the Raptors some major fan points across the border!
