Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir ice danced their way into our hearts with their stunning performances at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. As the most decorated Olympic skating duo in history, with five medals and unmatched chemistry to boot, fans are always eager to know if their rink romance translates off the ice. So, on Tuesday (March 20), Ellen Degeneres asked the big question.
Unfortunately for Olympic fanatics rooting for these two to end their fairy tale as a couple, Tessa, 28, put the rumours to rest. “We are not, but you know, we always say that’s a big compliment, because what we portray on the ice is very important to us and we love getting into character and telling a story,” she explained.
The Canadian star continued: “A lot of the emotions we portray are universal themes that resonate with everyone. So, the fact people feel invested in our partnership is truly remarkable… In those moments, when the music ended in PyeongChang, I just looked at Scott and I was so grateful to have lived the last twenty years by his side and share that together.”
But Ellen, 60, wasn’t ready to let the fantasy go, despite the Olympian promising that “if we were [dating], we would announce it here.” But just because they aren’t dating now, doesn’t mean they never did! Scott Moir let the audience in on their scintillating past: “Tessa was seven and [I was] 9, but we didn’t talk to each other. I remember when we were skating, we would just hold hands and avoid eye contact,” he joked. “In order to advance our partnership, we had to put the hot and heavy relationship on the side.”
To really get to the bottom of it, the talk show host planned The Definitely Not Dating Game, which tested their knowledge on each other. After 20 years together, these two know each other inside-out. Tessa knew right away that Scott’s celebrity crush is Reese Witherspoon (specifically in her Oscar winning role in Walk the Line) and Jennifer Lopez, and Scott knew right away that his partner’s guilty pleasure is chocolate – quick to point out that she should “eat whatever she wants” without feeling guilty!
