Feuding former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall may be bringing more drama than their characters ever did on Sex and the City , but that’s not true of the entire cast. Sarah Jessica and Cynthia Nixon’s off-screen friendship runs deep. On March 29, the mother of three took to Instagram to confirm what her fans have been waiting for: she will be casting a ballot in Cynthia’s favour as she runs for Governor of New York State.

The mother of three took to social media to voice her support for her friend, sharing a gorgeous headshot of the activist, writing, “A mother, an activist, an advocate, a fighter, a Ny’er, a dear friend. Running for Governor of our great state. My sister on and off screen, you have my love, support and vote.”

The actress announced on Mar. 19 that she’ll be running for governor of her home state of New York. A regular advocate for education, women’s rights and the LGBTQ community, the mother of three definitely has a vision for how she thinks her city should look and she’s hoping to enact some change by running for office.

Cynthia took to Twitter to share the exciting news with her fans with a heartfelt clip making the announcement. The video follows the 51-year-old as she takes her kids to school and rides the city’s subway, telling voters, “New York is my home. I’ve never lived anywhere else. When I grew up here, it was just my mom and me in a one bedroom fifth-floor walkup.”

TV and film franchise Sex and the City stole the hearts of viewers back in 1998, with fans quickly choosing which of the four female characters they identified with most. Cynthia, who played Miranda Hobbes, represented the hardheaded, hardworking woman and mother juggling her professional and personal lives as a successful lawyer in the Big Apple. And it seems like her character is not too far off from her real self. So far, she has one vote in the bag from her BFF – and if her social media accounts are any indication, there are plenty votes coming her way. Even Rosie O’Donell gave Cynthia a shoutout, tweeting, “CYNTHIA NIXON FOR GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK! #myFULLsupport – she is one of kind – brilliant – brave bold and so smart – a true leader #Nixon4NY”.
