These seniors are all about that Meghan Trainor! As part of a health initiative, Calgary paramedic Adam Loria makes sure to get grooving with his elderly clients. After the dance party was caught on camera and shared to Twitter on March 23, the small retirement community went global and caught Meghan’s attention.
A group of sweet senior citizens from the Whitehorn Village Retirement Community are the stars of the shindig, which is part of a regular community outreach program that encourages the residents to move more throughout the day. Adam thinks their exercise hour is one of the most important parts of their day, “That demographic, the elderly, they need to stay active, both physically and mentally,” he explained to Global News. “If we can help with that and make it fun, we’re all over that.”

The video starts off with Adam entering the room to Meghan’s hit track “No Excuses.” After setting down his equipment and taking off his jacket and sunglasses, the paramedic busts a move along with his senior pals. Eventually, they’re all standing, clapping and grooving along to the song. “I know for a fact the majority of them, if they wanted, they could definitely teach me something on the dance floor,” Adam remarked with a laugh.
The 24-year-old musician made sure to send some love to the dance crew, tweeting at them, “THIS JUST MADE MY DAY!!!! Can’t stop watching it! BEST DANCE MOVES.” And while the attention is great, Adam hopes it leads to more communities doing similar work, “I hope that that sort of enables other organizations or people that have family members that are that age to get them active, keep them engaged.”

The dancing paramedic also makes sure to spend time with his clients to answer questions and provide valuable information about their health, “We see the worst of things on a daily basis. If we can get out there and prevent that with a little fun engagement, that’s our goal.” It’s safe to say, their goal has been achieved!
