Bollywood star Salman Khan sentenced to 5 years in prison for poaching rare antelope

Stars have their own ways of unwinding during down time from shooting, but Salman Khan's has landed him in prison. The Bollywood star will spend the next five years in jail following a conviction for poaching a rare type of antelope. The reformed bad boy, 52, who has had numerous brushes with the law but never been convicted, was accused of killing two Blackbuck antelopes while filming a movie in Western India in 1998. The verdict has been 20 years in the making and shocked fans across the country.

The incident happened in Rajasthan, where members of the Bishnoi sect chased Salman and his co-stars and found the animals in their car. The group had been hunting on a break from filming the blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain.

The former boyfriend of superstar Aishwarya Rai built a hugely successful career playing captivating characters in a range of genres, from comedy to action to drama. He is known as "bhai" in Bollywood, meaning brother, but his attitude became a problem in the early 2000s. The reformed rebel cleaned up his act in 2008, launching the charity Being Human and rebuilding his reputation as a global force, topping Forbes lists and breaking earning records.
