There’s a new guy in Avril Lavigne’s life! The Canadian singer was photographed with billionaire heir Phillip Sarofim and the two have reportedly been seeing each other for a few months. This comes on the heels of a brief romance with fellow Canuck and music producer J.R. Rotem.
Following her appearance at the Race to Erase MS Gala in April – the 33-year-old’s first red-carpet since taking a two-year break from show business – the “Complicated” singer was spotted hand in hand with her new beau. The relationship is very new, a source revealed to E! News, and they’ve been dating for two to three months. The two spent time traveling back and forth to see each other after meeting through friends at a dinner party, the source said.Avril has designed a limited edition pair of leggings last year.
Phillip and Avril may not have much in common on the career front, but it’s clear that opposites attract. While out and about in Miami, the two held hands and walked closely together through a parking lot. Unlike the musician, Phillip has his sights set on business and stocks. The son of Fayez Sarofim, a father of five who is worth nearly $1.5 billion, Phillip is a fund manager for Dreyfus family stock funds, the second-largest shareholder of Kinder Morgan, an energy infrastructure company, and a part owner of NFL team the Houston Texans.
But despite their high-profile jobs, these two enjoy keeping it casual. While they were pictured out in LA last month, the couple stopped in at a local coffee shop before picking up some groceries at Jaydes Market, the Daily Mail reported. Avril wore a breezy red off-the-shoulder dress with white sneakers, while Phillip kept it casual in blue chinos, a white polo shirt and a baseball cap.
The heir and his musical girlfriend have both been married previously, she to Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 and, more recently, Chad Kroeger, who’s still a close friend. Phillip said “I do” to both Lori Krohn and, oddly enough, her mother Susan Krohn too.
Avril is gearing up to release her sixth studio album. This will be her first in five years since her self-titled album dropped in 2013, which featured the global hit “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” Though Avril originally said this project was going to be released in 2017, she wanted to make sure it was absolutely perfect for her loyal followers. “I know my fans have been waiting for a long time and some of them are unhappy,” she told E! News in April. “But trust me, I’m doing everything I can and I just want it to be ready and everything to be perfect. All the waiting and the hard work on my end will pay off, I promise.”
