Just days after Anthony Bourdain passed away, his daughter, Ariane, took to the stage for a concert in New York City on Sunday (June 10), and she kept her dad close at heart by wearing a special pair of boots he bought her. Her mom, the late celebrity chef’s ex-wife Ottavia Busia, was there to capture the beautiful moment, which was likely an emotional experience for Anthony’s only child.
Backed by a group of young band mates, the Instagram photo shows the 11-year-old at the mic performing on stage. Ariane was front and centre, decked out in a cool, dad-approved outfit that featured a leather jacket, jeans and knee-high studded boots – which, according to the caption, were a gift from her late father. “Our little girl had her concert today. She was amazing. So strong and brave. She wore the boots you bought her. I hope you are having a good trip, wherever you are,” Ottavia wrote in the caption.
Fans of the Bourdain family took to the comments section to voice their support, with one supporter writing: “Thoughts and prayers for your daughter and you as you navigate the water ahead.” Another follower warmly wrote: “She must be amazing like her parents. Thank you for such a beautiful share.”
The mixed martial arts fighter was married to Anthony for nine years before they split in 2016 because of his busy schedule. The two first met after Ottavia moved to the United States from Italy, according to People, and got a job working as a hostess at chef Eric Ripert’s restaurant. Anthony’s best friend, Eric, was the one responsible for setting them up, and they married only a few weeks later. “I guess my whole life, as much as I might have wanted a child for the reason that everybody wants one, I always recognized that at no point until I was 50 was I old enough or up to the job,” Anthony told TheTakeOut back in 2016. “I thought, you know what, I not only really want a child, but at this point, finally in my life, I think I’m up to the job.”
The 61-year-old was found dead of an apparent suicide in an apartment in France while he was in Paris filming an episode of his critically acclaimed CNN show, Parts Unknown – a series in which the star traveled to different cities to learn about the local culture through food. He also leaves behind his girlfriend, Asia Argento. The 42-year-old actress took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message to her late boyfriend: “Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did. His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.”
