Billy Bob Thornton has opened up about his divorce from Angelina Jolie, admitting that there's one primary reason the pair separated. The actor, who was married to the Maleficent star for two years in the early 2000s, attributes their split to the very different lifestyles they were looking to lead.

“She makes movies that are important to her whether they succeed or fail, she still does what she believes in and I’ll always respect her for that. And I remember our time together as really being great. We just had different lifestyles," he recently said on the "HFPA In Conversation" podcast. “Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So that’s really, that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together.”

The 62-year-old went on to say that the pair are still great friends and that he's proud of how much she's done for other people. The actress has taken on a variety of charitable roles for the United Nations and UNICEF. He also addressed the controversy that emerged around the pair's blood necklaces, saying the description of the jewelry was exaggerated by the media.

"We thought, ‘Hey, let’s poke our finger with a pin and smear a little on there, and when we’re away from each other, we’ll wear the necklace.’ That was that easy, but by the time it came out in the press, it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.”

The 43-year-old actress and her Pushing Tin co-star, who met on the film's set, were married for two years in the early aughts. After their split, she went on to marry Brad Pitt, with whom Angelina spent two years before announcing their separation in 2016. The couple shares six children. Billy went on to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend Connie Angland, with whom he has a 13-year-old daughter named Bella.
