Diary of the Week: Mad Hot Ballet, Thrill of Ascot, Scrubs in the City, CJF Awards and Bombay Sapphire x Lights

As Royal Ascot approaches, stylish Torontonians turned out their most show-stopping headpieces at Thrill of Ascot, now in its 12th year. Vanessa Mulroney, Devin Connell, Jenna Bitove, Suzanne Rogers and Jeanne Beker were among the 350 tastemakers who descended on Woodbine Race Track, ultimately raising $515,000 for Best Buddies. Jeanne, Jenna and Suzanne were also on hand at SickKids Foundation's 17th Scrubs in the City soiree at Evergreen Brick Works, where Roman Holiday was the theme and $820,000 was raised in support of the children's hospital.
All that glitters was gold at this year's Mad Hot Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada's annual fundraising blowout. Guests turned up the glamour in glitzy ensembles and posed in a disco-themed portrait studio in honour of the night's theme, ultimately raising a staggering $1.3 million! Meanwhile, the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) Awards honoured the who's who of the industry, from reporter Robyn Doolittle to Lifetime Achievement Award winner Peter Mansbridge, while guests delighted in a surprise performance by Arkells. And Bombay Sapphire Gin brought their Artisan Series Competition to Toronto (submission deadline: July 11) with a fabulous first visual exhibition by ambassador and Canadian singer Lights at the Artscape Sandbox.
