Tom Hardy says Prince Harry is a 'legend' in rare comments about his friendship with the royal

By Jessica Pollack

If Tom Hardy's journey from the gruelling Fonzo set in New Orleans to London for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding is any indication of their friendship, it's safe to say the two are close. In fact, the actor offered a glowing review of the duke in a cover interview for Esquire's September issue, calling Harry a "legend." In the rare comments about his royal friend, Tom added that their relationship is "deeply private."

Fans were quick to notice the 40-year-old among the celebrity attendees on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's big day. Clad in a navy three-piece suit alongside his actress wife Charlotte Riley, who wore a pretty floral dress, it was the actor's bald head that drew the most attention - a feature he'd adopted to play Al Capone in Fonzo, for which he worked 19 hours a day for six weeks. The day they wrapped, he told the magazine, he was on a transatlantic flight to see his 33-year-old pal tie the knot.

The handsome pair's relationship kicked off when the British star became an ambassador for The Prince's Trust in 2010. Harry and Tom have since been spotted supporting each other at various events, from the premiere of the latter's war film Dunkirk, which the prince attended in July 2017, to the Audi Polo Challenges in 2014 and 2016, where Harry was competing. The dynamic duo even had a cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, though to the great disappointment of fans it ended up on the cutting floor.

While Tom was otherwise tight-lipped about their friendship, it's easy to guess why the two get along - they're both family oriented and passionate about their work. Prince Harry and Meghan are also beloved by their friends for being unexpectedly down to earth, as evidenced in the economy flight they took to the south of France this year ahead of their wedding, during which they sat near the restrooms and Harry wore a baseball cap.

Tom has been busy promoting his latest film, Venom, which hits theatres in October, while Harry is enjoying some time off at his Cotswolds country home with Meghan. The two are also likely to visit the Queen at Balmoral in the coming weeks, an annual royal tradition. But the biggest question on fans' minds is whether we could see the newlyweds hit the red carpet for their friend's London premiere? Only time will tell...
