After a whirlwind summer of vacation time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are keeping their carry-on bags packed as they prepare to head off to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga on their first royal tour - and their trip Down Under just got a big helping of star power! It’s just been revealed that they’re bringing a long-time Royal Family friend with them – Harry’s celebrity pal David Beckham , who will be joining in as the Invictus Games’s newest ambassador.

One big reason they’ll be heading far across the pond is, of course, to attend the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney from Oct. 20 to 27. Apart from being an incredibly inspirational event, which sees wounded veterans compete in sports matches, it’s also particularly nostalgic for diehard fans of the couple – they made their first public appearance together at last year’s event in Toronto, Meghan’s former home base when she appeared in the hit drama Suits.

The British father of four took to Instagram to share the amazing news, dedicating his post to the immense respect he has for military servicemen and veterans. The former soccer player wrote: “I’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with many serving, veteran and wounded British armed forces personnel over the years and I’ve been humbled by the courage, resilience and spirit shown by each and every one of them.”

He continued: “So, I’m incredibly proud to announce I will be an Ambassador for this year’s Invictus Games in Sydney. The entire Invictus Games team, led by the Duke of Sussex, has achieved remarkable things in such a short space of time, using sport as a powerful force to rehabilitate and unite and I can’t wait to be part of the energy and the excellence of the Games this year. @invictusgames2018 #IG2018”.

The 43-year-old athlete has a huge passion for philanthropy, along with the rest of his beautiful family, who keep busy traveling the world to give back to their charities of choice. He and his wife, Victoria Beckham , founded the Victoria and David Beckham Charitable Trust , which provides wheelchairs to children in need. He’s also a UNICEF ambassador and a huge supporter of Help for Heroes, which supports injured soldiers returning home from the Middle East.

Fall is coming up quickly, which means the duke and duchess will be back to their royal duties for the year after a well-deserved break from the limelight. Their summer holidays took them to their leased country home in the Cotswolds , the Castle of Mey for some family time with Prince Charles and Camilla and Lake Como to catch some rays with Hollywood friends George and Amal Clooney.
