Watch: Serena Williams ‘couldn’t be more proud’ as she receives bestie Meghan Markle's cookbook in the mail

By Clare Douglas

Tennis ace Serena Williams received a very special delivery from Kensington Palace this week and shared her delight with fans on social media. Taking to Instagram, the mother of one showed off her very own copy of the charity cookbook that is supported by her close friend Meghan Markle. “This book is called Together. It's a community cookbook that the Duchess of Sussex just put out today. It's already number one on Amazon. And I just got my copy straight from Kensington Palace,” she explained while flipping through the book’s pages.

Serena added that she “couldn’t be more proud” of her friend for her contribution to the moving initiative, which will benefit the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen whose communities were deeply affected by last June’s deadly Grenfell Tower fire.

The book features a powerful foreword by Meghan, in which she explains the importance of Together. “[It] is more than a cookbook. This is a tale of friendship, and a story of togetherness," she writes. "It is a homage to the power of cooking as a community, and the recipes that allow us to connect, share, and look forward."

After encouraging her followers to "grab this book" because "it has wonderful recipes from all women, from all backgrounds coming together and just doing something and cooking. Oh, and it's for a good cause," Serena pointed out one delicious dish that she can't wait to whip up.

The 36-year-old isn't the only member of Meghan's girl squad to publicly applaud the duchess's efforts. Just hours after Kensington Palace shared news of the cookbook, her best friend Jessica Mulroney hopped on Instagram to show her support, writing, "Life is all about sharing, laughing and #cookingtogether. This is more than a cookbook, these are beautiful stories and the “healing power of sharing food”. Link to purchase the book and support this meaningful cause in bio. Very proud of you today."

Priyanka Chopra was equally delighted, writing on Instagram, "So proud of you for this new endeavour Meghan. This is everything you always stood for. Women supporting women. Supporting communities. Bringing Togetherness. Here you do it again.. Keep making the world smile babe!"
