Ryan Reynolds turned 42 on Tuesday (Oct. 23), and while even Blake Lively abstained from ribbing her husband on one rare occasion (instead choosing to put the focus on encouraging fans to vote and calling him "2018's Sexiest Voter Alive"), his frenemy Hugh Jackman couldn't hold back. The Logan star took to Twitter to share a special birthday wish, complete with a hilarious photo and a humble brag. Naturally, @vancityreynolds replied by calling his colleague a "monster."
Posting a photo in which he's reluctantly giving in to the Deadpool star's hug while clad in a white bath robe, @RealHughJackman captioned the snap: "Because I’m told that I AM THE NICEST GUY and you’re NOT. @VancityReynolds ... I will let you hug me. Just this once. On your birthday." This prompted Ryan to respond with a tweet of his own, saying, "This man is a monster. He’s not even from Australia. He’s from Milwaukee" - referencing his Milwaukee-based Wolverine lookalike, Milverine.

The hilarious feud started when Ryan made his debut as Deadpool in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, clashing on screen with Hugh's clawed mutant. Cue a battle of the wits that's been years in the making and endlessly entertaining for fans. But the homegrown funnyman has also made no secret of his longing to have Wolverine make a cameo in his Deadpool films.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in May, Ryan gushed over Hugh and shared just how one-sided his desire to team up seems to be. "I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best. I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it."
A few days later, the Aussie actor responded to his pleas in a message to the Canadian star on Good Morning America. “Ryan? Hey buddy, how are you, mate? Ryan, I love you, man. I love Deadpool, I can’t wait to see the movie. You’re one of my best friends, Blake, the fam, the whole thing. But, back it up a little, just play, play a little hard to get. It’s too much, it’s not sexy.”
Last year, while 50-year-old Hugh was promoting Logan in China, he tweeted a photo with fans saying, "Thanks for an amazing visit Beijing." Ryan took it upon himself to poke fun at his friend, saying, "Pretty sure those are protesters," to which Hugh responded, "Really…Guy … Really?! @VancityReynolds"
