No matter where Jessi Cruickshank goes, she always takes her sense of humour with her – and this amazing quality definitely serves her well during the hectic holiday season! It’s also served the charismatic TV personality’s fans, who can’t get enough of her hilarious Instagram snaps of 15-month-old twins Rio and Diego, who she shares with husband Evan Gatica.
HELLO! Canada caught up with Jessi after she presented on the main stage at Toronto’s One of a Kind Winter Show on Dec. 1 to find out her best tips for nailing your Christmas pics and the thoroughly traumatizing Kodak moment that she’ll treasure forever.
As any family with young kids would know, getting the perfect holiday photo might as well be a Christmas miracle. But instead of putting pressure on perfection, the Calgary native prefers to keep the laughs coming. “Our goal is always a funny Christmas card photo … with the boys. Last year, we did two Santas because we had twins … and we hired two Santas to come and hold our tiny babies,” she shared. “We have to top that but that’s one tradition!” While Jessi and Evan haven’t figured out their Christmas photo yet, she recently shared one funny option on Instagram, grimacing at the camera with one of her twins.
Having young kids makes life a little easier, Jessi joked, because they “have no understanding of what’s going on.” But this can also make some holiday traditions less-than-Kodak moments – which is all the better! “Obviously I'm taking them for pictures with Santa knowing full well that it is going to be a traumatic experience for them and if they scream on Santa's lap, those are going to be photos I will treasure forever,” she said with a laugh. But the twins also get their fair share of holiday entertainment. “I took them to the Santa Claus parade last weekend when I was in Victoria and they loved it. Like, there were baton twirlers and lights and they were thoroughly entertained.”
Jessi stressed that embracing the imperfections around the holiday season is the best way to maintain your sanity. “Unlike most people who have flawless Christmas cards or, you know, the Kardashians have their high production value Christmas photo shoot… I would say sure, you can try to do that but if it doesn’t work out as you had hoped or expected, those are the best shots,” she shared. “Like, if the dog is eating the Christmas crackers or the baby is crying on Santa or there's something real happening, for me, those are the classic shots. Don’t be afraid to embrace those as your Christmas card because people are going to remember it.”
