One queen sings for another! Beyoncé serenades Diana Ross for her 75th birthday

By Sarah Walker

Diana Ross sure knows how to ring in a birthday! On Tuesday (March 26), the Motown icon celebrated her 75th with a star-studded affair that included some of Hollywood’s most famous faces, including her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross , daughter-in-law Ashlee Simpson, Sean Combs, Gayle King, Bette Midler, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian. And it was none other than Beyoncé who sang “Happy Birthday.”

The flawless moment happened when Tracee presented her mom with a giant birthday cake and said she didn’t want to be the person singing into the microphone. “Wait, Beyoncé, are you still here? Do you want to sing Happy Birthday?” she asked. Luckily, the “Halo” artist obliged, and as Beyoncé sang, Diana twirled around in a bedazzled silver gown. At the end of the performance, the birthday girl graciously thanked Queen Bey by saying “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has serenaded the iconic performer. Back in 2000, Destiny’s Child performed a rendition of Diana’s famed “Upside Down” during a tribute concert on VH1.

Even celebs who didn’t attend the event marked Diana’s special day by wearing a T-shirt she once wore emblazoned with the word “I’m Gonna Win.” Celebrities including Lena Waithe, Debbie Allen and Tracee took part in a social media campaign, with many posts noting, “With grace and glamour Diana Ross blazed trails by proving that, in a male-dominated industry, Black women can succeed by showing up as their authentic selves. And when we do, we win.”
