What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Well, Jimmy Kimmel broke that rule with his Friday episode when he and Celine Dion interrupted a wedding there and broadcast it to the whole world! The intention was to make a marriage “even more special than it was already going to be,” Jimmy told his audience while introducing a clip showing the stunt.
It began when Jimmy – who is from Las Vegas – cheekily activated a screen behind Jason and Kate, who are both in the US Air Force, while their nuptials were in progress. “I’m sorry to interrupt. What were you guys doing?” Jimmy said, before joking, “I was wondering if I might step in and you might let me preside over your ceremony.”
After he took over, Jimmy asked the audience if anyone knew of any reason why Jason and Kate shouldn’t wed. With that, comedian David Spade suddenly was in the room, joking that liquor was needed because this was, after all, Vegas. Tequila shots were had and the two said their “I do’s,” but Jimmy’s surprises weren’t done.
“Did you hire a wedding singer?” Jimmy asked Jason and Kate, before the biggest shock of the evening: The doors opened again, a cloud of smoke poured out, and with it… came Celine, who was singing her 1996 smash “Because You Loved Me.” She continued to serenade the couple during their first dance.
Of course, Celine later joined Jimmy in his studio to talk about their adorable stunt, and also chat about her upcoming world tour. She heads out across North America for 50 dates beginning Sept. 18 in Quebec City. She will leave her children at home for the first time for the tour, and also marks the end of her Vegas residency.
