It’s been a few years since Beyoncé shocked us by dropping a new album when we didn’t expect one. She last did that with 2016’s Lemonade, which was released in connection with a film that aired on HBO at the same time. And now Queen Bey has done it again by dropping Homecoming the same day a concert film of the same name was released on Netflix.
Homecoming: The Live Album was recorded during Beyoncé’s two-hour history-making set at Coachella in 2018, during which she became the first black woman to ever headline the festival. And yes, it features a special appearance from her old bandmates in Destiny’s Child , which she reunited during the show. The whopping 40-track release also features Jay-Z and her sister Solange, along with three surprise tracks: “I Been On,” which has never been on a Beyoncé album before, a cover of Frankie Beverly and Maze’s “Before I Let Go” and daughter Blue Ivy singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The album is available on all major streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL. Beyoncé superfans may not have been that shocked by this news, since Genius, which posts lyrics, listed a new album called B7 that was set to drop on April 18, according to The Independent.

As for Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé , it’s available on Netflix now and is described as an “immersive and engrossing 360-degree experience that places viewers on stage with the indefatigable Queen Bey and her synchronized army of undulating singers, dancers and musicians,” according to Billboard.
In the film, Beyoncé says she wanted to use her Coachella performance to highlight black culture and music. The film also features quotes from Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou and other black historical figures and black rights activists. “I felt like people wanted me to stay in my little box,” Beyoncé said. “I could have worn my flower crown, but it was more important to bring our culture to Coachella.” We can’t wait to watch it!
