Many iconic Disney films are getting the live-action treatment this year, and Mulan is next in the running!

The breathtaking trailer for the action flick was released on July 7. The film stars Chinese-American actress Yifei Liu, and follows a young woman who risks it all to disguise herself as a man and become one of the greatest warriors in China.

After the Emperor of China declares one man per family must serve in the army, Hua Mulan masquerades as a man to enlist in the war to protect her ailing father. The cast includes Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Yosan An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is based on the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”

The animated version of Mulan was first released in 1998. This new version will hit theatres on March 27, 2020.

According to the trailer, the new adaptation features many of the original animated version’s incredible scenes, from the horseback battle to training sequences leading up to the war. The sweeping scenic and roof-hopping scenes are bound to impress fans of the original movie.

Disney classics like Aladdin (starring Canadian Mena Massoud and Will Smith) and The Lion King (starring Beyoncé and Donald Glover) have also become live-action hits this year.
