Even Beyoncé was nervous about meeting Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry

What’s more nerve-wracking than meeting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at a red carpet event? Apparently… nothing, according to superstars like Beyonce, Jay-Z and Billy Eichner.

The A-listers, who plenty of people would be anxious to meet themselves, lined up for a meet-and-greet with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan at the European premiere of The Lion King on July 14, and according to Billy, everyone was nervous. Yes, even Queen Bey.

"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came, and Beyonce was there, and Sir Elton John was there. And I was there, randomly," the actor joked to Jimmy Kimmel on July 18. "And it was great, and we were all kinds of nervous, even Beyoncé."

"Really?" Kimmel replied. "They should be bowing to her!"

"That’s true, actually. She’s our American royalty," Billy added. "But what makes you nervous is in the days leading up to it, they email you a protocol of how you’re supposed to greet Prince Harry and they’re very intense about it. I’m not kidding."

The 40-year-old actor, who plays Timon in the remake, said all attendees received the same rules to follow, but he ended up being relaxed when he met Meghan and Harry.

“They were very, very nice and totally chill and down to earth and lovely,” he said of meeting the new parents. “I kept thinking she’s Princess Markle but that sounds like a character on Super Mario Brothers ,” he also joked.

Meghan looked absolutely stunning in a partly sheer Jason Wu gown, which she accessorized with Aquazzura heels. She carried a simple black Gucci clutch. Harry looked dapper in a sleek suit and black bow-tie.

The European premiere of The Lion King was held “in support of the conservation and communities work of His Royal Highness through The Royal Foundation,” according to The Telegraph. Disney pledged US$1.5 million to the Lion Recovery Fund in connection with the film, the publication added.
