Olivia Newton-John picked up a lifetime achievement award at the Industry Dance Awards and Cancer Benefit Show in Los Angeles on Aug. 14, and she had a message for fans and supporters while she was there!
The star, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in November, told Entertainment Tonight she was happy to be receiving the award and is spending much of her personal time just enjoying her life these days.
“I just want everyone to know, I’m here, I’m doing great. I’m doing really well and I’m really healthy,” she told the program.
“It was a challenging year because I broke my sacrum and I had to learn to walk again and everything. But I am strong and I am back and I’m feeling good and loving every minute.”
As part of her award, Olivia received a huge donation for her Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, which is run out of her home country of Australia. She told ET the money will be used for “wellness programs” such as meditation, yoga, therapy and acupuncture and the other 50 per cent will go toward cancer research.
“It’s such an honour and I am so grateful to receive that amazing cheque for my cancer wellness centre,” Olivia said. “That it will help so many people with the programs to support them going through their cancer journey.”
Olivia got very raw earlier this month when she admitted she doesn’t know how much longer she has to live.
“I’d be lying if I said I never [get scared],” she told 60 Minutes in Australia. “There are moments, I’m human. If I allowed myself to go there, I could easily create that big fear.”
Olivia received a very supportive message from fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman at his The Man, The Music, The Show gig in Sydney earlier this month, too. He got the audience of 15,000 people to send her good wishes from the gig.
“Listen, you are the most amazing person, the most amazing mum, the most amazing ambassador, singer, and dancer. We just love you,” he said in the clip.
“You are so sweet and thoughtful [sic] this made me cry!” Olivia wrote while sharing the video to her own Instagram stories. “Say hello to my heart home!”
