Toronto hotels will pamper and treat the stars with these special gift bags during TIFF 2019

By Kathryn Kyte

The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival is officially in full swing and with that comes a flock of stars landing in Canada’s biggest city for 10 days. Along with the parties and the industry meetings, the screenings and the red carpet craze, TIFF is about honouring the films and talent that made the stories happen. But it also comes with some stellar perks, too.

Now in its 11 th year, the Bask-It-Style “non-traditional gifting suite” housed a hodgepodge of luxe finds, savory drinks and exclusive products, some not yet on the market on Sept. 4. This year, 20 sponsors were presented at the Thompson Toronto Hotel’s Front Room, and HELLO! Canada was on site to sip and take in an exclusive preview of the selections, which will be offered to select celebrities. A total of 20 bags will be distributed via hotel partners across Toronto.

Previous Bask-It-Style giftees have included Matt Damon, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Olivia Wilde, Julianne Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Blake Lively.

This year, celebrities will receive offerings like soothing lotions from Newfoundland’s Indigena. They’ll also get teas from family-run Vancouver-based Oteas. Special guests will also snag the anticipated novel Good Girls Lie from New York Times bestselling author J.T. Ellison. The writer tells us the book is a “ Gossip Girl meets Jane Eyre” thriller full of private school drama. It is expected out on Dec. 30, 2019.

Stars will sip on wine from Spain’s D.O. Rueda (it’s all about the Verdejo grape right now) and enjoy sparkling keepsakes from Michael Hill — look for more gemstone engagement rings to be popping up.

Other fall options from the jeweller on display were new coin collection necklaces ($79 to $179); stacker rings ($329 to $700); layered earrings ($99-$179) for those with multiple piercings; and 10k yellow gold mini hoop earrings ($139), which can be worn from work to slumber.

Calabasas-based Amber & Ash presented their wax canvas convertible tote, which has compartments for literally everything including a spot to fit a 13-inch laptop. Peer-to-peer car sharing platform Turo casually showed off the Back to the Future DeLorean outside the hotel.

MONAT Global’s anti-aging haircare line will keep the celebritie’s beauty in check. Tru Niagen will offer guests the “Hollywood-loved” NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) supplement and form of vitamin B3, which supports cellular health like cellular energy and metabolism. LIVA’s alternative to sugar, which is made with two ingredients – dehydrated ground deglet noor dates and “love” – will also be part of the celebrity gifting experience.

There will be more reading options available, too, like Fashion, New Edition: The Definitive Visual Guide, DK Publishing’s newest big-book on styling trailblazers from 19 th century to present day ($65). For those interested, DK will release I AM C-3PO:The Inside Story about Anthony Daniels (who played the iconic C-3PO in the Star Wars franchise), in November. The book comes with a foreward by J.J. Abrams, director of the latest trilogy of Star Wars films.

As for munchies, celebrities will snack on things like bacon and cheddar popcorn from the Toronto Popcorn Company , probiotic bars from Welo and organic chocolate from Green & Black’s . We were also a big fan of Todd’s Better egg white protein crisps , which have 120 calories, four grams of fat and 10 grams of protein per 33g serving.
