Susan Sarandon got inked – and so did everyone else who worked on Blackbird!
The Oscar-winning star showed her new tattoo off on the red carpetwhile she was in Toronto to promote Blackbird at TIFF 2019 and told reporters how it came to be. The art is a tiny blackbird on top of her wrist, and resembles the one found on the film’s promotional materials.

“We were finishing [filming] during Thanksgiving and I said, 'well, let's get a tattoo...'” she said. “Everyone came to my house and [had] a huge Thanksgiving dinner and every single person including the director got [a tattoo], so that was really so much fun and sweet."
Susan’s colourful and bubbly personality was on display throughout the day at TIFF when she attended several events to promote the film on Sept. 6. She showed up to the press conference for Blackbird in the afternoon in a funky brown pantsuit with a gold blouse, big sunglasses and incredible grey-and-brown dress shoes.
Later the same evening, she arrived at the premiere looking like a million bucks in a very different – but similar – look. She chose a Cavalli shiny black pantsuit, wore shades again and this time rocked glittery shoes that made her feet resemble disco balls.
Blackbird, which features Susan playing a dying woman who assembles her family – played by Rainn Wilson, Sam Neill, Mia Wasikowska and Kate Winslet – before she ends her life, had its world premiere at TIFF and is based on the Danish film Silent Heart. It’s in theatres now.
