Who is Alexandra Grant? Everything you need to know about Keanu Reeves’s rumoured girlfriend

By Zach Harper

On Nov. 2, Keanu Reeves sent the Internet, with all of its Matrix and John Wick fans, into collective fainting spells when he was seen on the red carpet of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Art and Film Gala holding hands with Alexandra Grant.

If you’d like an example of one such reaction, see below.

The 55-year-old actor is notoriously private about his personal life, so such an outward public display of affection is surprising for the star. So... who is Alexandra, and what should you know about her?

She’s an artist

Alexandra specializes in visual art and uses language and exchanges with writers such as French feminist philosopher Hélène Cixous to inform her work. One of Hélène’s essays inspired her earliest works. She and Hélène went on to collaborate on twin exhibitions in California in 2013, which saw Alexandra create huge drawings inspired by Hélène’s Philippines and experiment with themes such as telepathy.

She has also been inspired by Greek myths. Her painting called Antigone 3000, based on a phrase from Greek writer Sophocles’s play Antigone, debuted in Los Angeles in 2015. It went on to win her an award from the City of Los Angeles and LACMA.

She’s been friends with Keanu for a while

The result was a book called Ode to Happiness. It didn’t end up being their only collective work, either. Shadows followed. It featured photos of Keanu’s silhouette juxtaposed with short phrases intended to prompt the reader to think about the grieving process and what comes with loss.

She and Keanu run a small publishing company

In keeping with their history of collaboration on literature and art, Keanu and Alexandra founded X Artists’ Books in 2017. At its launch that year, they both told the Los Angeles Times they intended to publish works that showcased unconventional art.

“Your job is to read a script and figure out how to embody it,” Alexandra said to Keanu in their interview with co-founder Jessica Fleischmann at the time. “Mine is to embody text into painting and yours,” she told Jessica, “to embody into books.”

Her work has been exhibited in Canada

The Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto displayed a collection of Alexandra’s works, according to her resume. That’s heartwarming to Keanu’s fans, since Toronto is where he grew up.

This wasn’t her first time holding hands with Keanu

Earlier this year, Alexandra and Keanu were pictured at the Saint Laurent Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 runway show in Malibu, Calif., where they held hands for photos, too. That appearance didn’t prompt such a hubbub of reaction, though.

It looks like she can marry you!

Alexandra is also a marriage officiant, having done just that for two of her friends at Brooklyn Bridge Park in August.

In an Instagram post from the nuptials, she congratulated Ginna and Edwin, saying she was honoured to have helped them celebrate their big day.

“Our friendship deepens my sense of wonder, connection, and creativity,” she wrote in the heartwarming message accompanying a picture of her with the bride and groom holding hands.
