Look back at the first time the 2020 Golden Globe Awards nominees attended the show

The 2020 Golden Globe Awards will be handed out this Sunday in a star-studded ceremony hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais. The nominees include plenty of Globes rookies, but also seasoned veterans such as Brad Pitt, Renee Zellweger, Scarlett Johansson, among others.
Seeing as there's tons of talent between the nominees and many of them have attended the awards before, we thought it would be great fun to delve into the past and take a look at some of the stars' first ever Golden Globe red carpets!

Charlize Theron, 2004
First time's a charm! Charlize was an aughts dream in this yellow, frilled spaghetti strap gown at the awards that year, and also won! It was her first nomination, and she walked away with an award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for her work in Monster.

Scarlett Johansson, 2004
Sixteen years ago, ScarJo was nominated twice: Once for Lost in Translation and another time for The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Sadly, she didn't win that year, but went on to receive three more Golden Globe nominations, including this year for Marriage Story!

Renee Zellweger, 2001
Renee's career was just beginning to take off when she walked the red carpet in this gorgeous shoulderless black dress with a thigh-high slit. Her nomination for Nurse Betty was her first, and she also won! She went on to receive six more Golden Globe Awards nominations, including this year for Judy. She's won two additional times - 2003 for Chicago and 2004 for Cold Mountain.

Christian Bale, 2011
Batman would have been proud of the all-black suit Christian was wearing the year he was nominated - and won - for The Fighter. He walked the red carpet with wife Sibi Blazic, to whom he's been married since 2000.

Antonio Banderas, 1997
The heartthrob had his now ex-wife Melanie Griffith with him the year he was nominated and won for his role in Evita. This year, he's up for his performance in Pain and Glory.

Adam Driver, 2019
The former Marine had his wife Joanne Tucker with him when he was nominated for BlacKkKlansman. This year, he's up for his role in Marriage Story.

Leonardo DiCaprio, 1994
Leo brought his mom, Irmelin Indenbirken, with him the year he was nominated for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?. He's up for his role in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood this year.

Annette Bening, 1992
Annette chose a simple, velvet look, complete with an HIV/AIDS ribbon, for the year she was nominated for Bugsy. She's up for The Report this year.

Laura Dern, 1992
Laura, nominated for Marriage Story this year, looked dazzling in a spaghetti strap black dress with red-and-gold sequins as she arrived at the event in 1992. She was nominated for Rambling Rose that year and had Vinnie Spano on her arm.

Jennifer Lopez, 1998
Does J.Lo age?! She wore a very '90s multi-coloured, asymmetrical look on the red carpet more than 20 years ago when she was nominated for Selena. She's up for Hustlers this year.

Margot Robbie, 2014
Margot wasn't up for an award the first time she walked the red carpet. That didn't happen until 2018, when she was nominated for I, Tonya. She looked incredible, though, in a very mid-'10s dress, that had a plunging neckline, thigh-high slit and emerald and silver sequin detailing.

Kathy Bates, 1991
Kathy really deserved two awards that year: one for Misery (it was her first Golden Globe) and one for this outfit. She's nominated for Richard Jewell this year.

Tom Hanks, 1989
This was Tom's first Golden Globe, which he won for Big. He's won four more, since, and will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award this year. He's also nominated for A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.

Anthony Hopkins, 1979
The Two Popes star was only just starting to go grey at his first Golden Globes, when he was nominated for Magic. He had wife Jennifer Lynton with him. They've since divorced.

Before he was nominated this year for The Irishman and played a burglar in Home Alone, Joe was up for Raging Bull.

Michelle looked gorgeous in purple on the red carpet and had Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger with her that year, who was also nominated for his work on the film. He sadly passed away two years later. Michelle is nominated for Fosse/Verdon this year.

She wasn't nominated that year, but she had Friends castmates Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox with her that year!

Baby faces! Reese was just 23 when she was nominated for Election. She had now ex-husband Ryan Phillippe with her at the time. Their daughter Ava is now almost the same age!

The Game of Thrones star wasn't nominated when he walked the red carpet for the first time, but he looked sharp. He's up for his work on the series this year.

The star was up for his TV work in Mr. Robot that year. He was nominated for the same series a year later, and won an award for his work in the film Bohemian Rhapsody in 2019. He's up for Mr. Robot again this year.
