'Friendship goals': Meryl Streep saved Helen Mirren's dress during the Golden Globes

By Zach Harper

You can always count on Meryl Streep in a pinch, and that certainly was the case at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 5, when she leapt into action to help Helen Mirren!

The stars, who are two of the most acclaimed actresses of all time, were pictured bonding at Helen's table during the show, with Meryl showing her friend a shoe. While the moment might have seemed a bit odd, it turns out they'd had a different kind of wardrobe-based encounter that involved Helen's dress.

In a separate viral photo, the eight-time Golden Globe winner can be seen fixing Catherine the Great star's dress, which had reportedly broken or come apart in some way at the time.

What's more, the moment meant Meryl and Helen both had to leave the Globes salon if they wanted to fix Helen's gown, which meant they wouldn't be allowed back in. They did it anyway.

Fans loved the gesture, and praised Meryl for her kindness online.

"#MerylStreep helping #HelenMirren with her dress is the life I didn't know I needed!" one person tweeted.

"Okay but the fact that Meryl Streep left the Golden Globes salon to fix Helen Mirren's dress even after they were told they couldn't come back to it again if they left it. Iconic," another wrote.

Oh, and by the way, they did get back in, because the photo of Meryl showing Helen her shoe showed up after they returned to their seats.

Neither Helen nor Meryl received awards that evening, but it looked like they had plenty of fun with each other, chatting at their table and catching up after Meryl saved the day.

Both looked as stunning as always at the Golden Globes. Helen dazzled in her aforementioned Dior look, which she paired with a Harry Winston diamond necklace, diamond earrings with ruby drops and a Harry Winston diamond ring. The jewels were worth a jaw-dropping US$4 million! Truly a look fit for royalty! Meryl was also wearing Dior, and chose a Dior Haute Couture metallic dark green lamé gown, which she paired with Fred Leighton jewellery.
