Joaquin Phoenix's touching tribute to Heath Ledger at the SAG Awards

One Joker gave another Joker some love on stage on Jan. 19, as Joaquin Phoenix accepted a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work as the iconic DC Comics villain.

When the two-time Golden Globe winner took to the stage to accept his Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award, he took time to recognize his predecessor in the role.

"I'm standing here on the shoulders of my favourite actor, Heath Ledger," he said in a heartfelt comment.

Heath won a posthumous Oscar for his work in The Dark Knight after tragically passing away from a prescription drugs overdose in 2008.

Joaquin also thanked Christian Bale, Heath's co-star in the aforementioned film, for his work playing Batman in Christopher Nolan's trilogy, which he said had been inspirational to him in Joker.

"You never turn in a bad performance, and it's infuriating" he said, prompting Christian to laugh in appreciation. "I wish you would. Just suck once."

The star also thanked his fellow nominees Adam Driver and Taron Egerton, who were up for awards for Marriage Story and Rocketman, saying he was thrilled to see their work.
