Blake Lively on working out with her kids: 'I use them as weights'

By Heather Cichowski

Blake Lively is a busy, multitasking mom balancing a successful acting career, raising a young family with husband Ryan Reynolds. But The Rhythm Section actress always makes sure she gets time in for self-care.

Blake recently revealed the schedule she kept while filming her latest flick. It included involving her daughters in her workout – by sometimes using them as makeshift weights!

The former Gossip Girl actress revealed that during the eight-month period of shooting The Rhythm Section she got up at 5:00 a.m. In a video interview with Vanity Fair, Blake explained the early start to the day wasn't a personal choice, but "mostly because I was doing momma duty with my girls."

She went on to describe her routine with daughters, James, 5, Inez, 3, and a newborn daughter who was born in fall 2019 who hasn't been publicly named.

"[In the mornings I would] have breakfast with them, hang out with them, work out with them," she continued. "'Cause I didn't want to wake up any earlier. I'm not Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. I had to just get some sleep."

When it came to working out, Blake took advantage of her daughters being involved. Not only did she get to spend more quality time with them, she used them as a unique form of resistance training.

"I would sort of use them as weights," the actress hilariously revealed. "Instead of wearing a weight vest, I got to wear my children."

Blake and Ryan are both active on social media, but they keep their daughters out of the public eye. That means fans have yet to see the mom of three share a photo where she's working out with her daughters.

In another recent interview, Blake spoke about what it's like having three kids who are all under the age of six.

"It's like going from two to 3,000," she joked on Good Morning America. "We have so many children. It's pretty crazy – we're outnumbered and, you know, it's a lot.

"People say that like from two to three it's the same, you know, it's kind of easy.

"Those people do not have three kids. It is crazy," she concluded.

It might be a full house for Blake, but it sounds like she is managing pretty well and coming up with creative parenting hacks to spend more time with her daughters while practicing some self-care with her fitness regimen.
