Laura Dern pays tribute to her parents with touching Oscars acceptance speech

Laura Dern has picked up every major award this season for her performance in Marriage Story, and it just won her an Oscar. The actress, who Nicole Kidman once described as one of the nicest people in the industry, didn't forget those who helped her get to this point as she took the stage.

Laura, whose birthday falls a day after the Academy Awards, called her trophy "the best birthday present ever" during her speech, in which she also expressed gratitude to writer and director Noah Baumbach and her co-stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.

"Noah wrote a movie about love and about breaching divisions in the name and in honour of family and home and hopefully for all of us in the name of our planet, and I would like to say thank you to the gifts and love stories in my life, my step-children, C.J. and Harris, my heart and inspiration, Ellery and Gia," she said, tearing up.

Laura brought her children, Ellery Harper and Jaya Harper, who she shares with ex-husband Ben Harper, to the Oscars with her, along with her mom. And she closed with one of the best tributes to her folks – who are both actors – that we've ever heard a star give.

"Some say you never meet your heroes, but I say, if you are really blessed, you get them as your parents," Laura said. "I share this with my acting heroes, my legends, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. You got game. I love you."

We're tearing up here! Congrats, Laura!
