Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have been married for more than 11 years now and together for almost 16, and their love has been deeply inspirational to millions of people worldwide. Fans have always appreciated their small gestures of affection for each other, and Ellen recently shared something completely adorable she loves to do for her wife.
On Feb. 13, just ahead of Valentine's Day, Ellen asked Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls fame about the most romantic thing she's ever done for anyone. Lauren was unsure how to answer, so Ellen decided to tell her, the audience and viewers what she loves to do for her wife, whom she married in 2008.
"Whenever Portia has to go out of town and I'm not with her, I surprise her and I call the hotel and I set it up," Ellen said. "They put a huge heart-shaped thing of rose petals on her bed. So when she walks into the room, the whole bed is covered with a heart-shaped rose petal."
SWOON. Who wouldn't love to arrive at their destination and see that? It would be such a welcome thing, too, given that we often get to hotels feeling completely exhausted and missing home. What a great opportunity to reconnect with a loved one from afar and feel loved and cared for!
"We actually met socially and I just felt that immediate draw," she said. "We did talk a little bit and then over those three years, we saw each other at parties or at various things, but the one time that was the most significant was during a photoshoot, actually.
"I just walked over to say hello to her, and I couldn't believe it, but she turned around and it was like an arrow was shot through my heart. I felt weak at the knees and I was overwhelmed with how I felt. But then it took me about 10 months to get the courage up to actually do anything about it."
During the same interview, Ellen called Portia "the smartest, kindest, most wonderful woman that you'll ever know."
Happy Valentine's Day, you two!
