2020 Canadian Screen Awards: 'Schitt's Creek' dominates with 26 nominations

By Heather Cichowski

Schitt’s Creek completely owned the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards nominations, which were announced on Feb 18. The beloved Canadian sitcom about a family suddenly going bankrupt and ending up in the fictional town the same name leads the pack with an incredible 26 nods!

Fans might be mourning the end of the beloved series, but the record-breaking nominations are definitely something to celebrate. Schitt's Creek is competing in some big categories at the CSAs, including Best Comedy Series and has nominations in several actor and actress categories. It's going to be a tough call for Best Lead Actor, Comedy this year, since father and son Eugene Levy and son Dan Levy are both up for that award!

Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy are also up against each other in the Best Lead Actress, Comedy category and the series itself scored three nominations across Best Supporting Actress, Comedy with Emily Hampshire, Jennifer Robertson and Sarah Levy all getting nods. Similarly, Noah Reid, Chris Elliot and Dustin Milligan are all nominated for the Best Supporting Actor, Comedy award.

The CBC show also received multiple nominations across several categories including Best Writing, Comedy; Best Direction, Comedy; and Best Photography; Comedy.

The recently-cancelled Anne With An E, which was an updated take on the Canadian classic Anne of Green Gables, was also recognized with 16 nominations including Best Drama Series. Cardinal, the crime series based on the novels of crime writer Giles Blunt, followed closely behind with 14 nominations.
