Olivia Colman is filming the highly anticipated fourth season of The Crown, and fans now have another project to look forward to from the British actress! It was recently revealed the Oscar-winner will star in Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, alongside Dakota Johnson.
The film will be an adaptation of Elena Ferrante's 2008 novel of the same name. Maggie is reportedly writing the script and will direct it.
The book's original plot centres around middle-aged, divorced English professor Leda, who takes a vacation to the Italian coast and quickly discovers it's not the idyllic trip she thought it would be. Meeting a family on the beach, including a woman named Nina and her daughter, stirs up past trauma and makes Leda question her life choices.
"When I finished reading Elena Ferrante’s The Lost Daughter, I felt that something secret and true had been said out loud. And I was both disturbed and comforted by that," Maggie said in a statement, according to Deadline. "I immediately thought how much more intense the experience would be in a movie theatre, with other people around. And I set to work on this adaptation."
No details about the film's release have been confirmed, but it sounds like it will be a thrilling movie that will showcase the multiple award-winner's talent.
After wrapping filming season four of The Crown, Olivia will be set to pursue more projects because Imelda Staunton has been confirmed to play the Queen during the fifth and final season of the Netflix drama.
Olivia took over the role from Claire Foy, who portrayed the Queen for the first two seasons of the hit show.
