Céline Dion's mother, Thérèse Tanguay Dion, passed away at age 92 on Jan. 16. Since then, the Canadian singer's social presence has mostly been focused on her tour. But on Feb. 19, she posted an emotional message on Instagram thanking fans for all of the support she and her family, children René-Charles, 18, and twins Eddy and Nelson, 9, have received since Thérèse's passing on Jan. 16
The "My Heart Will Go On" singer shared a black and white portrait of her mother, who was lovingly known as "Maman Dion" by Quebecers. She penned the message in French and English.
"On behalf of my entire family, I would like to thank all of you for your expressions of sympathy, which have touched us very deeply," Céline wrote.
"If you wish, you can write a note or make a donation on the Fondation Maman Dion website.
"Helping children in need, will help us to heal. – Celine xx.."
Fondation Maman Dion has a mission to help boost the self-esteem and development of young Quebecers between the ages of 5 and 16 who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It has been working to make a difference since 2005 for kids who attend primary, secondary, francophone and anglophone schools in the province.
The foundation's website also shared an in memoriam notice for Maman Dion and asks for donations in her honour in lieu of flowers.
Thérèse's death came just days after the fourth anniversary of the passing of Céline's husband, René Angélil. The superstar posted a photo of her late long-time love holding a sleeping dog on Instagram on Jan. 14. Céline wrote a touching message to Rene, to whom she was married from 1994 to his death in 2016.
