#IStayHomeFor: Elton John, Kevin Bacon, David Beckham and more stars share why they're socially isolating

By Heather Cichowski

Social distancing and self-isolating are major ways the general public can hopefully stop the spread of the coronavirus and flatten the curve of COVID-19. Many celebrities are taking to social media as they stay at home, sharing their updates and staying connected through a digital community.

Kevin Bacon launched the #IStayHomeFor social media campaign in light of the coronavirus pandemic, and other stars are getting involved.

The Footloose actor took to Instagram on March 18 to further spread the expert-recommended message about how it's important to stay home during this trying time to stop the spread of the virus. He put a more personal spin on the recommendation by sharing who he is staying indoors for, and encouraged others to do the same.

#IStayHomeFor @kikkosedg! Hey everybody, it’s now so important to stay home and keep our distance from others if you are able. It’s one way we can help prevent the spread of #Coronavirus and save lives. The more of us who can, make it safer for those who can’t. So if you’re home too like me, post a video or photo with a sign like mine, telling who you are staying home for and ask 6 friends to do the same. Post it with the hashtag #IStayHomeFor so I can see and share. The more folks involved, the merrier - We’re all connected by various degrees (Trust me, I know!) I’m kicking it off with @jimmyfallon @eltonjohn @Brandicarlile @kevinhart4real @ddlovato @davidbeckham - but I encourage YOU ALL to join in too! Let’s use this 6 Degree thing to do some good! . . . . #Corona #Coronavirus #StayHome #StaySafe #6Degrees #ThinkingOfYou #SpreadTheWord

"#IStayHomeFor @kikkosedg!" the American actor began, giving a shoutout to his wife Kyra Sedgwick via her Instagram. He shared two photos and a video in reference to the movement.

Kevin continued by encouraging everyone to stay in and while they're doing so, share the loved ones they're supporting by social distancing.

"Hey everybody, it’s now so important to stay home and keep our distance from others if you are able. It’s one way we can help prevent the spread of #Coronavirus and save lives. The more of us who can, make it safer for those who can’t.

"So if you’re home too like me, post a video or photo with a sign like mine, telling who you are staying home for and ask 6 friends to do the same.

He nominated Elton John, Demi Lovato, Jimmy Fallon, Kevin Hart, David Beckham and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile.

The choice to link to six other people is inspired by "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," according to E! News. "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," or simply "Bacon's Law" is a game based on the "six degrees of separation" concept and suggests that people are connected to the actor through six or less degrees of separation.

Kevin's nominees, including Elton John and David Beckham, quickly took to social media to promote the #IStayHomeFor message and share their personal stories.

David said he was staying home for his wife Victoria Beckham and their children: Brooklyn Beckham, 21, Romeo Beckham, 17, Cruz Beckham, 15, and Harper Beckham, 8.

"Staying at home for the ones that we love. Thank you @kevinbacon for nominating me," the soccer legend wrote. "I'm staying at home for Victoria and our kids, including Cruzie who's made his way into this photo.

"Let's stop the coronavirus spread together ♥️ Share your own #IStayHomeFor photo with a sign like mine and tag six of your friends asking them to do the same," he said before nominating eldest son Brooklyn, Gordon Ramsay, James Corden, soccer coach Gary Neville, sports agent David Gardner and nutritionist Rose Ferguson.

Elton also said he was staying in for his family, including husband David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah.

"Thank-you @kevinbacon for the nomination!! #IStayHomeFor @davidfurnish and our boys. Today it’s snakes, ladders and staying inside to stop the spread of coronavirus," the music icon revealed.
