The 2021 Oscars and BAFTAs might have been pushed back due to the coronavirus, but the 2020 Emmy Awards haven't! Jimmy Kimmel will host this year's ceremony, which is scheduled to take place Sept. 20.
It's not known what format the telecast will take – whether it will be an in-person event or entirely digital like the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards this year.
"I don't know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it," he announced in a humorous statement on June 16.
What is certain is the Creative Arts Emmys will be held digitally in September, and there will be no Governors Ball event. The Creative Arts Emmys are held before the annual ceremony to recognize technical achievements in TV programming.
This will be Jimmy's third time helming the show, which he hosted in 2012 and 2016.
"This has been an incredibly challenging time for our industry; and though were are now making plans to get back to work, we know there are many still suffering from the work stoppage caused by the coronavirus," Television Academy Chair and CEO Frank Scherma said in a statement.
The world's economies are only just beginning to reopen or move towards doing so, which means many businesses in the film industry such as studios are either just getting restarted or planning to do so in the near future. The entertainment industry has been hit hard by COVID-19, and several high-profile stars, including Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, have also contracted and recovered from the illness.
