Beyonce, Britney and Pink rock Trafalgar Square

Thousands of pop fans descended on London's Trafalgar Square to see chart-topping divas Britney Spears, Pink and Beyonce at the launch of their new ad. The turnout seemed more in keeping with the launch of a Hollywood blockbuster than a soft drink commercial, and the combined star power of the three American singers was enough to send Londoners into a tizzy.

In the new Pepsi ad, the tantalising trio play female gladiators who must battle an evil Roman emperor, played by none other than Enrique Iglesias. The performers seemed delighted at the rapturous reception they received outside the National Gallery on Monday.

"London is like a second home to me," said Beyonce on arriving at the venue. "I'm here every few months and I love it. I love the English people – but I don't like the cold."

The inimitable Ms Spears was next to make her entrance, wrapped up warm in a Dolce & Gabbana coat. "To have this premiere is pretty amazing," enthused the 22-year-old. "Filming the ad was awesome and I got to work with these two fantastic gladiator women." Asked about her recent marriage debacle with childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander, the chanteuse simply smiled and said: "I've reached the stage now where I can laugh about it."

The pop divas were also joined by a rock legend, as their new advertisement features the Queen anthem We Will Rock You. And when guitarist Brian May was asked how he felt about collaborating on the project, he was more than forthcoming. "I will die happy!", declared the musician with a grin.

In her latest incarnation, Beyonce more than lives up to her reputation as the femme fatale of the pop charts. But the singer assured her London fans that she's much more ladylike in real life
