George Clooney spent quality time with his soon-to-be mother-in-law at the weekend, a couple of months ahead of his and fiancée Amal Alamuddin's wedding.

The Hollywood star, who is set to marry his lawyer love in September, invited her mother, Baria Alamuddin, to stay in his luxury villa on Lake Como in Italy.

"They were outside, and Amal and her mom were smiling," a source told People magazine. "It was going pretty great."

"Amal's mom left the next day, and at the airport they just looked so happy."

The duo also got to spend some alone time together ahead of Amal's mum's visit. The handsome pair enjoyed a romantic dinner for two at hotel Villa D'Este in Cernobbio Village, arriving via boat taxi.

George, 53, and 36-year-old Amal were seen holding hands as they arrived, the beautiful human rights lawyer wearing a chic white shift dress and carrying a fun black clutch with a long fringe.

"

George and Amal looked very much in love all weekend," the source says. "They were all smiles, holding hands. There was an air of romance."

The pair are expected to tie the knot during a September ceremony somewhere secluded in Italy. They have been seen in recent months scouting possible wedding locations, including the magical city of Venice.

George's luxury villa on the shores of Lake Como was also on the cards, but Amal is said to have wanted a little more privacy.

The Hollywood star and his London-based fiancée, who is of Lebanese origin, got engaged at the end of April after having dated for seven months.

Guests invited to their big day include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, and Matt Damon. According to George's Aunt Starla, Brad may even be best man at the ceremony.

"I would say he'd choose Brad Pitt for his best man. They are good friends, I would think that's who he'd choose," she told Esquire magazine.

Should the wedding take place in September as planned, it would be around the time of their one-year anniversary.
