Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has hit back after Louis Walsh hinted that she didn't deserve her place on The X Factor judging panel. The singer tweeted to defend herself after Louis described her as "irrelevant" and "lazy".

"I am beginning to wonder if Louis has some kind of an obsession with me…" Cheryl tweeted. "I mean this is every year whether I am or am not a part of the show."

She continued: "…and btw.. This is the same man asking me what he should say to contestants on our way to the stage bc 'he doesn't know'…"

Cheryl concluded her stream of tweets by urging Louis to stop being so negative.

"Dear Lou Lou. Try using your mouth to say something positive abt something positive," she wrote.

The 31-year-old's tweets come in response to an interview Louis gave to Heat magazine, in which he said he would rather see Mel B return to the judging panel instead of Cheryl.

"Cheryl wasn't great last year, she's sometimes lazy and lacks energy," Louis said. "She needs to give more, she can give so much more.

Louis Walsh said he would rather see Mel B on The X Factor than Cheryl

"She's irrelevant these days. I know people say the same about me, but apart from anything, I am fun and I have a rapport with Simon."

Louis continued to share his dream judging panel for the show, saying: "Personally, I'd rather have Mel B on the panel. I love her – but that's not going to happen. I'd like to see Nicole (Scherzinger) back and I reckon Simon would too, but I don't suppose Cheryl would work with her.

"If I had my dream pick for that panel, it would be Sharon Osbourne, because she's fun. She knows her stuff and she's not frightened to say it."

While Louis will reportedly be leaving The X Factor after 11 years to help launch Ireland's Got Talent, the outspoken Irishman said Simon Cowell didn't sack him from the show.

"He hasn’t called me up and told me I'm fired. I've had 11 years and maybe I won't come back, but there's a difference between that and being sacked. And who says I want to come back?"
